Perhaps there is no creature more suitable as a writer’s totem then the bird. In honor of #featheredfriday, here are some bird quotes.
“No bird soars too high if he soars with his own wings.”
–William Blake
“Fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly, writers will go to stupefying lengths to get the infernal roar of words out of their skulls and onto paper.”
–Barbara Kingsolver
“You were born with wings why prefer to crawl through life?”
–Rumi
“God gives every bird his worm, but he does not throw it into the nest.”
–P.D. James
“God loved the birds and invented trees. Man loved the birds and invented cages.”
–Jacques Deval
“I am no bird: and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will.”
–Charlotte Bronte
“A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, a bird sings because it has a song.”
–Maya Angelou
“Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.”–Langston Hughes
“What can we writers learn from lizards, lift from birds? In quickness is truth. The faster you blurt, the more swiftly you write, the more honest you are. In hesitation is thought. In delay comes the effort for a style, instead of leaping upon truth which is the only style worth deadfalling or tiger-trapping.”
–Ray Bradbury
I love these. I’ll be coming back to these often.
Thank you. I love them too. Thanks for reading.
I love the Maya Angelou quote.
Me too. And the Tagore quote is to die for too. Thanks for reading and commenting too.
Love the quotes, AND THE OWL PHOTO! Is that one of your shots?
I wish. It was free one from MorgueFile. You have the best owl shot I know of.
You are always welcome to use mine! 😉
Nice! I can’t even choose a favorite.
I think I like the Bradbury quote best. Don’t hesitate. Jump. And maybe, just maybe….you’ll fly.
Yes. I love that. Thanks for reading and commenting.
I love these and will come back to them often. I gotta say, though, the Barbara Kingsolver quote. . . priceless!
It’s difficult for me to choose a favorite. I thought, as I was reading, the Kingsolver quote best applied to my slushing through the first draft of my novel. And then I read Bradbury’s, and as he often does, he hit the point flawlessly. Thank you for sharing- I needed that to spur on my outlining this morning.
Each of these quotes aptly touches on a different aspect, but together they are a smorgasbord of insight and truth and promise. Thank you!
Thank you. I like them too.
My favorite changes EVERY DAY. Probably because I change every day. LOL.
There is something too that “change every day thing”
